| Northeast Iowa Community Action - Transit
NEICAC - Transit offers demand response transportation from anywhere within our 5 county area to local
destinations and beyond. People regularly use our services to get to work, to go to medical appointments, to
attend school and meal sites, for shopping purposes or just to visit friends & family. Last year our
transit system provided or contracted to provide over 180,000 one-way rides. We look forward to serving
your transportation needs in an efficient and professional way!
Most of our current fleet of 53 vehicles are equipped with ramps or lifts to provide accessible transportation
for individuals confined to wheelchairs or affected with other disabilities which restrict mobility. As a
general rule, NEICAC - Transit is a curb-to-curb public transit service, which means the driver
will pick up and drop off at curbside. Riders needing additional assistance may request door-to-door
service, which means the driver will be available to assist the rider to and from the main entry door and the
transit vehicle. Drivers are not allowed to assist individuals inside their homes, clinics, public facilities,
businesses, etc. Anyone needing that type of assistance may bring along one escort at no additional charge.
Of special note:
Our transit system has received the "Rural Transit System of the Year" award from the Iowa
Department of Transportation in 1997 and 1999. We were the State of Iowa’s nomination in the year of 2000
for National Transit System of the Year. In 2009 we received Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA)
Award of Achievement for the largest decrease in cost per ride and the second largest increase in ridership
among the other regional transit systems in Iowa for 2008.
NEICAC-Transit currently receives JARC (Job Access Reverse Commute) funding to help partially
fund services in the Clayton County area. The JARC services, along with all of our services, are open to the general
public.
