Family Planning Program
AREAS SERVED: Allamakee, Chickasaw, Clayton, Fayette, Howard & Winneshiek
Counties are served by the Northeast Iowa Community Action Corporation’s Family Planning program.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

The Family Planning Program of NEICAC is a Title X funded delegate of the Iowa Department of Public Health. Title X is Federal Health & Human Services funding for voluntary Family Planning services. The program also receives Title XIX (Medicaid) and Title XX (DHS funds for Family Planning) for those participants who meet income guidelines. The program also receives some financial support from individual county boards and private individuals.

The program provides annual physicals including pelvic, PAP, and breast exams to any female participating in the Family Planning Program. Other screening services include STI testing as indicated, blood pressure, Hemoglobin testing, and pregnancy testing as indicated. Education and counseling related to Breast Self Exam (BSE), Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI), and Testicular Self Exams (TSE) are also provided. Other educational topics related to Family Planning include preconception health, infertility, natural family planning, and other birth control methods.

The staff is available for school and community presentations to increase the awareness of Family Planning issues in the NEICAC service area. In 2002, 1,237 clients were provided family planning services.

INCOME GUIDELINES:
All income levels are served. Family Planning operates on a sliding fee scale. Those below 100% of the federal poverty guidelines cannot be charged for services.
